Re: [X2Go-Dev] Bug#375: x2gothinclient does not install 686 kernel
Hallo Mike I prefer 686-Kernel on a 32bit System, as it supports multiple cores. Stephan On Tuesday, 17. I can use x2gothinclient_shell and use apt-get to install linux-image-686, to get the 686 kernel installed. But upon doing so, the reason for it not being auto installed is apparent: 64-bit machines don't support PAE (not needed), and the deb package for linux-image-686 knows that this particular kernel is made for machines supporting PAE. I can just say yes to the warnings, and I even though I end up with an error, the kernel does get installed. This is not optimal. I realize this is a problem (in this niche case, it probably works as intended) with Debian Wheezy, and not really a job for the developers of x2go, but since I am running into this problem when using x2go, I am reporting the problem here, and hopefully it will be sent upstream, if that is desirable. What is your reason for wanting to use the 686 kernel in the first place. The reason I removed 686 support from the X2Go TCE is that it (a) did not bring any feelable improvements while my TCEs ran under Debian squeeze _and_ (b) did not work fluently if the PXE server machine is a amd64 system Please enlight me, why 686 would be a sensible kernel alternative to use here... -- __ Dr. Stephan Wagner ITos GmbH Bitzi-Bendel 2555 9642 Ebnat-Kappel Tel: +41 (0)71 990 05 94 mailto:swag...@itos-gmbh.com http://www.itos-gmbh.com -- ___ X2Go-Dev mailing list X2Go-Dev@lists.berlios.de https://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/x2go-dev
[X2Go-Dev] Bug#251: User x2goclient expected, but user x2gothinclient established
Package: x2gothinclient Version: 1.0.1.8-0 A user x2gothinclient is established in the TCE- environment, but /usr/sbin/x2gothinclientd expects the user x2goclient, with its home directory at /home/x2goclient. Therefore /usr/bin/x2goclient will not start, leaving the user in front of a black screen. Intruducing the user 'x2goclient' solved the problem. [X2Go-Dev] Bug#250: ultiple xorg.conf's in x2go TCE
Package: x2gothinclient Severity: wishlist On Mi 26 Jun 2013 18:02:20 CEST Stephan Wagner wrote: We use the 'hostname' to distinguish the xorg.conf's for different thin clients. The attached init-script 'x2gohostname' replaces the default 'hostname' with the ethernet address of the network device eth0. Colons are replaced by dashes. Xorg will search the xorg.conf.hostname file in the directory /usr/etc/X11/, which correspond to /opt/x2gothinclient/chroot/usr/etc/X11/ in the PXE-boot environment. The init-script goes to /opt/x2gothinclient/chroot/etc/init.d/. Enter the chroot-environment executing 'x2gothinclient_shell'. 'update-rc.d x2gohostname defaults' will generate the symlinks for the different run-levels. Hope this helps someone, Stephan Can you please re-send this mail to sub...@bugs.x2go.org and put the below lines as first lines of the mail body:?: Package: x2gothinclient Severity: wishlist My suggestion would be to improve this script a little further. From Debian Edu I know that it is rather easy to retrieve the hostname from DNS. Like this: MAC - DHCP - retrieve IP - DNS - set FQDN (revDNS) as hostname If this fails, MAC as hostname is a fallback that is good enough.
