You need to use the program "dbfinfo" from the shapelib install or "testdbfawk"
from Xastir to get the actual field names. What you've got there is the
records themelves. I believe there are instructions in the wiki page for
running testdbfawk (which might be called "testawk" in that page if it hasn't
been updated, but testdbfawk is the right name these days).

Re: [Xastir] CVS install on Fedora12 - R click errors

2009-12-16 Thread ka7o
OK, I'm stumped.

Desktop - a Dell of some flavor. Fully updated Fedora 12 via yum. Clean
Xastir install from CVS - R click menus work fine. No problems at all.

Laptop - HP of another flavor. Fully updated Fedora 12 via yum. Clean
Xastir install from CVS (I even deleted th ~/.xastir directory and started
fresh. STILL has the R-click problem. No menus show up. Arrow changes
direction - can not regain focus or use the mouse cursor outside the
Xastir box. I even went back and updated all the 'tar ball' stuff as
described in the Installation Notes/HowTo: for Fedora.
http://www.xastir.org/wiki/index.php/HowTo:Fedora

But, now I have two - nearly identical boxes - one with the problem, one
without. Something's gotta be different here. Anyone wanna guide me
through discovery?

AIM (kc7zru) or YahooChat (ntstate)

[Xastir] Radar image of sunrise

2009-12-16 Thread Keith Kaiser
In this .png file I didn't know what
the top left, to bottom right parallel lines were caused by. So I ask a friend
over at NOAA he said "You are seeing the radar catching sun rise, watch for the
same thing during this evening but from the southwest."

If you look at this .png file
you'll see he is correct. The first capture was done at 8:15am the last one at
4:15pm CST.

This is very cool!

Thanks Dick, the how-to document looks like it should help, except that the dbf
doesn't look anything like I expected. I've copied a small piece of it below.
It looks to me like it has the two letter state code, followed by the state
name, then the fips code and finally the lat and long. But since none of them
are really named, I'm not sure how to address them in the dbfawk file.

Anyone got an idea?

Example of the s_01au07.dbf file:

Re: [Xastir] State Boarders

2009-12-16 Thread Dick Repasky

Keith,

Unless someone out there has created a dbfawk file for the shape file
that you have, you'll need to create one. The best documentation that I
know of for that is at

   http://www.xastir.org/wiki/index.php/HowTo:DBFAWK

Briefly, you'll have to tell dbfawk the names of the fields in the dbf
file so that it has a fingerprint for the file. Then, you'll tell it
what fields in the file you want to examine, and finally you'll write
line that sets the color value to what you want.

Good luck,

Dick, KC9JLU

Re: [Xastir] CVS install on Fedora12 - R click errors

2009-12-16 Thread ka7o
In rummaging through my junk pil...uh, garage - I found an older Fedora 9
box. I've upgraded it to F10, then to F11 and yesterday finished upgrading
it to F12.

Then I followed the Wiki howto and installed Xastir from CVS.

Everything is working fine - R click menus and all.

I'm on my way to the house for lunch, I'll bring back my laptop that had
the R-click menu issue - update it to current and reinstall Xastir. Who
knows - maybe Fedora released an update that has fixed this all for us.
I'll let you all know in a few hours what I find.

I'm not even sure it's xorg related:

I managed to get a working popup menu by accident.
I had NumLock turned on and pressed right click. Instantly I got
'Modifiers Found' popup and the actual popup that wasn't display before.
Turning off numlock and closing the Modifiers popup, the actual popup
works correctly now.
Unfortunately closing xastir and starting it again (without numlock on)
won't work the old issue remains.

Any thoughts ?
