[Xastir-dev] Test native speech for Mac OS X.

2011-05-21 Thread Carl Makin
Evening All,
I've just re-implemented an interface to the native Mac speech routines in
Xastir.

It's not the nicest interface since the Core Foundation based API to the Mac
speech functionality gets quite upset and yells at you if you call it after a
fork so I used execl to run /usr/bin/say rather than call the API directly.

It is working here on 10.6.7 and didn't crash after 10 minutes on a full feed,
although my ears may never be the same.

Would anyone else like to play with it? If so, please email me off list and
I'll send you the patch.

Carl

Is it possible to center the charts around 180 degrees instead of 0
degree when you live and use Xastir in the Pacific Ocean ?

[Xastir] UTF-8 messages

2011-05-21 Thread Andrew Errington
Hi all,

Are there any plans to support UTF-8 messaging in Xastir? I have searched the
archives and wiki and can find no mention of this.

I know that certain portions of a packet must be restricted to 7-bit ASCII
(such as the callsign and path, right?) but the message body could be UTF-8,
and indeed this is supported by aprs.fi and some clients (e.g. APRSISCE).

As a quick test I tried to paste some non-ASCII characters into the message
box in Xastir, but it didn't work. Xastir also did not recognise the Korean
input method I have for typing Hangul (Korean characters).

73,

Andrew
