I would guess the .desktop goes in the root of you home directory (/home/UID). Don't know about the icon. You could make one :) --- David A. Iain, tried *sudo adduser myusername dialout* got the expected response but still have to start xastir as root *sudo xastir* to start the serial port. It's been a long day so I'll look at it tomorrow.
