Re: [Xastir] cygwin xastir 2.0.6 64 bit

2015-01-21 Thread Kurt
Yoo,

How about an install script for XP 32bit? A lot of hobbyists still use XP of
older simplier laptops for field use.
Would be nice to get Xastir running with cygwin.

I'd be interested in the 64 bit installation script for cygwin/Xastir as my
kids have a 64 bit Windows 7 machine upstairs
with beaucoup disk space.

I'd love to get exposed to this environment. I tried to figure out cygwin a
year ago but couldn't get to the right
information to make it understandable to make an attempt to work with. (Hint,
hint. Links aprectiated) :-) ;-)

I have alot of Ham friends who would find this helpful since they are not Linux
literate.

Hi,
I have made a 64 bit installation script for cygwin, and made a binary
version of xastir-2.0.6 that lives in /usr/local. it has graphicsmagick
built inn. it have been testet and made on windows10pre in virtualbox.
due to the fact that I do not have any windows machines.

The reason for making it is to let a local HAM group play with it on
there windows machines since not all wants to deal with a linux
installation and virtual-box. some even down`t like the idea of live
booting a usb stick. A nother reason is that some of our emergency
laptops run windows due to the fact that some down`t wane use any thing
other then ms (down`t ask my why... there is no good reason but many
good reason not to..(even field proven))

So the question is pretty simple, dose anyone else have simulare
situation, and is interested in using the script and maybe also help
slim it more even better ? (I think the script can be used on win32 bit
too but I have not compiled a 32 bit version of xastir for this
installation script.)

I'd be interested in seeing what you have. I did the win-Xastir
install CD years ago and have been thinking it's time to get that
going again. Xastir still has client features that are lacking else
where. I'll be doing both 32 and 64 bit - set up for a network
install.

I've always thought about writing a Cygwin file that didn't specify version #'s
and contained the two CVS lines in a small script

My plan is to recreate some of the old win-Xastir work to
bring back the automatic installs.

So it appears the Cygwin instructions for building and running Xastir
are years out of date in the wiki. Is this true or did I fail to find
the right page?

This one?

http://xastir.cvs.sourceforge.net/xastir/xastir/README.CYGWIN?view=markup

Except for one or two file versions, it's still pretty close.

If it weren't for the Seattle Marathon next week I'd devote a few ATU's to
updating it a little..but I'll have to wait until after all the Holidays are
done before I'll have that amount of time...

I used the README.CYGWIN file distributed with Xastir quite recently to
build Xastir in a Losedows virtual machine, just to check if the instructions
were still good. It worked fine.

The Wiki could be out of date, but the file in the Xastir source tree is
fine.
