Thanks, Tom. I've noted this on the wiki page as well. On 03/21/2012 10:56 AM, Tom Hayward wrote: I was able to test with a dumb terminal. Re: [Xastir] TH-D72A with Internal GPS working with Xastir
I will send it to you off-list. Here's what I want you to do: 1. Apply the update 2. Follow the instructions at http://wiki.complete.org/THD72PCAPRS to configure the radio (two menu items) and Xastir 3. Down in the Use section of that page, bring up the radio in APRS ro mode. (Press TNC on radio, APRS should show up, select the ro option that the page had you configure in Xastir.) 4. Verify that Xastir has a fix on your location. 5. Using Interface Control in Xastir, take that interface DOWN. 6. This will turn off the TNC. 7. Press the TNC button again, turning the TNC on to APRS mode. 8. In Xastir interface control, bring up the packet rw mode that the wiki page had you configure. The D72A display should now switch from APRS to PACKET12. 9. Right-click somewhere on the map and select move my station here to move it to a fake position. 10. See if you get some feedback from the GPS to move it back to the correct position. 1. These steps are because it looks like Xastir may still pick up a packet from the working APRS mode that the radio was in just prior to switching, and give an initial one-time fix. Make sense? -- John On 03/21/2012 09:18 AM, Tom Hayward wrote: On Tue, Mar 20, 2012 at 09:12, John Goerzenjgoer...@complete.org wrote: I upgraded my radio to 1.05 last Thursday and I'm not sure if it's safe to go back down to 1.03. It's the TNC mode that did not work. For the APRS and non APRS/TNC mode you just had to enable the format you wanted. I upgraded my radio to 1.05 last Thursday and I'm not sure if it's safe to go back down to 1.03. I do have the 1.03 installer if anybody is running older than 1.03 and wants to try the 1.03 upgrade. It's probably safe but i'm not sure if the software allows you to downgrade. Anyhow the upgrade has fixed several issues so for me even the GPS data is not a good argument to downgrade. We just have to report this GPS issue once more to Kenwood so that it might work on the next version. Re: [Xastir] TH-D72A with Internal GPS working with Xastir
Sooo, Does this mean that someone else has been able to confirm this? The problem I had with the D7A(g) operating in that fashion is that even though the GPS position was passed through to Xastir, Xastir treated it as just another station. If one can get Xastir to look at that data as the location of your station, I can see some use to it. I couldn't quite figure out how to reassign that data stream to my stations position. I also noted a random assignment to the icon and the positions end up coming in under the incoming data field. I said the above was with the D7A(g). Is that the way it behaves with the D72? If so, I don't see where that would be of any help. If setting it up as a serial TNC with a GPS on an AUX port corrects that. I'm in luck! :-) Kurt KC9LDH --- On Sat, 3/17/12, John Goerzen jgoer...@complete.org wrote: From: John Goerzen jgoer...@complete.org Subject: Re: [Xastir] TH-D72A with Internal GPS working with Xastir To: Xastir - APRS client software discussion xastir@lists.xastir.org Date: Saturday, March 17, 2012, 8:53 PM On 03/17/2012 07:43 PM, Lee Bengston wrote: Just a suggestion for the wiki referenced above - it doesn't say which type of interface to create in Xastir. Re: [Xastir] TH-D72A with Internal GPS working with Xastir
If you watch the output from the D72A in minicom or some other serial program, you'll see lines that look various ways. APRS packets will have CALLDEST sort of appearance. GPS packets will start with $GPS It's a real GPS packet, not an APRS packet, and Xastir does the right thing with it as far as I can tell. -- John On 03/19/2012 02:23 PM, Kurt Savegnago wrote: Sooo, Does this mean that someone else has been able to confirm this?
