Re: [xcat-user] xCAT On DELL Power Edge C6420 servers - any current users

2020-10-27 Thread Andrew Loftus
Hi Peter,
Please note that script is a copy of an internal xcat postscript. The link
I posted points to the specific line on which we made a change (modified
the regexp for grep).
Note also that if you find you need that modification, you must be careful
how you install the modified script. Since xCAT provides the original
script, if you just replace the xCAT provided one, you will lose the
customization at the next xCAT upgrade.
Our current solution is to put the custom script into
/install/postscripts/custom, then symlink the original file to the custom
one. An xCAT upgrade will break the symlink, but at least you won't lose
the change.
The "setup.sh" script in that repo will recreate the symlink (among other
things).
Finally, note that isn't the case on all Dell systems and I don't recall
which ones.

We own these. We use Warewulf (our usage of xCAT is limited to Lenovo DSS-G),
but not real issues I’m aware of.

Re: [xcat-user] xCAT On DELL Power Edge C6420 servers - any current users

2020-10-26 Thread Chiu, Peter (STFC,RAL,RALSP)
Thanks a lot, Vinicius,

“Enabling IPMI over LAN interfaces on IDRAC”, is that something
needs to be done by DELL during manufacturing, or something that
can be enabled after delivery?

Peter

You should guarantee that IPMI over LAN interfaces are enabled on IDRAC. It
came disabled by default.

Dear All,

We are thinking of adding a DELL Power Edge C6400 server

2 Intel Xeon Gold 6230 CPUs, 128GB memory and iDRAC Enterprise)
to our xCAT cluster in diskless mode.

Before investing on this hardware, I wonder if anyone has any
experience with this set up and willing to share any watch-outs.

Many thanks.

We own these. We use Warewulf (our usage of xCAT is limited to Lenovo DSS-G),
but not real issues I’m aware of.

2020-10-26 Thread Jon Diprose
Not exactly the same, but we have a bunch of C6420s in an xCAT cluster in
diskful mode (mostly 6126 + 384GB, some 6148 + 192GB, internal M2 SSD, no disk
backplane). Very happy with them.
