[XFree86] Fatal Error
Hello, I'm trying to install Linux on a Dell Inspiron 1100. Everything works, but the display takes only the center %60 of the screen. I have an A22 bios, Linux Kernel version 2.4.20-8. I'm running RedHat 9.0 and XFree86 Version 4.3.0 (Red Hat Linux release 4.3.0-2). I have an Intel I845GL chip with driver "i810". I have tried to apply a patch that I found online called 845 patch but it still does not work. When I boot it gives me errors: (EE) I810(0): No Video BIOS modes for chosen depth. (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. Fatal server error: no screens found Is there a patch that you know of with detailed instructions? I'm fairly new to Linux so I don't want to screw anything up. Thanks, Alex Joyner ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86

[XFree86] X server crash
Hi, I am using XFree86 version 4.3.0 on Red Hat Linux 9 (release 4.3.0-2). Many times, after restarting my laptop, the X server is unable to start up giving an error that it is unable to load base modules 'bitmap' and 'pcidata'. I am also using Windows XP SP1 professional edition on my laptop.. The server crash often occurs when I boot Linux after having used Windows on my previous boot. I have been unable to solve the crash problem by no means other than having to reinstall RedHat on my laptop again.. The upgrade installation of X Server is not able to work as it terminates with an error. Could you kindly look into this problem and let me know what can be done (if there is a solution to it)? I have included the log report generated as an attachment to this mail. Also, please do contact me if you require any details regarding the problem. Thanks in advance, Regards, Kumar Gaurav. [XFree86] Saphire Radeon 9600 Atlantis
HW 3D is only supported on ati's driver. the opensource radeon driver only supports 2D on your card. the error you are getting is suspect is due to the flx module not being loaded. in your config file in the modules section make sure the glx module is listed; if not, add it. Alex -- Hello, Can someone please tell me if there is a 3D driver available for this card under linux? I have tried everything from the drivers at ATI.com, to the ones on the germany site, schneir.com (or something like that), to the dri website and nothing seems to work. I have also tried fglrx.o, ati.o, and radeon.o to no avail. 2D works great, but I get the generic error message: Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". Video mode set failed: Couldn't find matching GLX visual when I try to kick off an opengl application. Here are my X logs. This is a run with the radeon driver. Pretty much any driver yields the same results. I am using XFree86 4.3.0. Kernel 2.4.20-20.9. I have no exotic hardware (SB Live!, Athlon 1900+). This is the latest greatest offering from Redhat 9 with all released updates applied. I bought this card to do opengl development, so you can guess my disappointment. I cannot however monitor any help page on the internet or any link added to this site. The benefit of this site is however that you (and the others on this list) can become active and don't have to wait for a web master to become active. Therefore information can be added and corrected quickly. If you help me to make this site more known it may actually become useful some day.
