Re: VESA driver bug continued

2004-04-18 Thread Sam (Uli) Freed
Thanks for the good work. Is this the bug that manifests that I get
gray-ish colours on startx and need to switch VTs back and forth to get
it right? In any case, keep me posted, and I will put info on my page.

Are you doing a FreeBSD on R100 webpage?

Sam.

i had a bit of sleep now and started looking at the VBE20 docs again.

first of all the VBE function is called Set/Get DAC Palette format,
secondly there is a note in the documentation section saying.
This function will return failure code AH=03H if called in direct color or
YUV mode.
needless to say, this IS a bug because the function got called if bpp was
higher or equal to 8 regardless of the memory model. (that in this case is
directcolor for 16/32bpp modes)

Some months ago I downloaded via_drv.o and an XFree86 binary which worked

XFree86 binary.
Nevermind. I just installed the complete 4.4.0 and now it works perfectly..

[XFree86] Xvesa Help

2004-04-18 Thread Robert Steinmetz
I am investigating a very small Linux for old hardware and am running
into some problems with Xvesa. Is there somewhere I can get more
information on it? I haven't been able to find much information other
than the man page. Is it still being actively being developed?

Re: [XFree86] radeon driver only ever uses clone mode instead of dual head

2004-04-18 Thread criptos
Please, please, send me your configuration file...

Also, I have a ibook with ati readeon...

to use the driver without framebuffer at my laptop, I have a very ugly video,
with horizontal lines dancing..

And also, using my second out to TV, I only get 640x480...

How do I check if DRI is being used?

Frits Jalvingh wrote:
 Gismo/Luca,

Thanks a million! I did never guess that the DRI drivers were that different!
I have a working, dual-head config now after compiling DRI from CVS over my
 XFree 4.4 installation!

I just had to tweak the config you sent but that took only 30 minutes.

 Thanks again!!!

Hello,

I have a portable (Sony GRX316MP) which contains a Radeon 7500 mobility
which has dual-head capability. I know this chip CAN handle non-cloning
dual head because the X server from Xig does it (and Windows of course).
But the Xig server has some problems and it seems to only support two
heads in Xinerama mode; I want to have separate X displays on both heads.

I've an ASUS M6842NWH with an ATI Radeon 9600 Mobility NP M10 and dual-head
work perfectly with the XF86Config-4 attached.

To get the secondary screen to work at all I had to specify
Option CloneMode 1280x1024
in the device section for the primary head, else it used the mode for the
primary head regardless of the information in the Screen section and the
information returned by DDC from the 2nd screen.

cut

I also have Screen, Monitor and Modes sections for each separate monitor.

AFAIK this is not correct, in this way you configure your XFree86 to use
Xinerama. You should use the 'radeon' driver from the DRI package.
