[XFree86] x events logging / debugging

2003-12-16 Thread Berge, Harry ten
Hi,

We're using Xft2/Fontconfig/Freetype2 to display truetype (chinese) fonts.
However, we don't have the possibility to use a toolkit like Qt or GTK, so
we're calling Xft calls directly.

The result is that our applications works, including Chinese fonts, but the
X server runs to a 100% load.

The question is how to debug this scenario. We have a Qt test application
(using Xft2) that works perfectly, and we want to see what the difference is
between these two. How can we log X server events? Or are there other
possibilities to debug a X11 application?

Use nVidia boards in combination with their driver. Configuration options
are great, the driver is very neat (IMHO the package from nVidia seems to be
more polished then the ATI ones) and it works perfectly!

Sorry, but this is not the case. The last X server that functions correctly
in pseudocolor mode is 4.2.
So the solution is using the nVidia driver or rebuilding the X server
yourself (or, of course, make your application turecolor).

You're completely right! This is caused by the render module. One solution
is to use a nVidia card with the driver from nVidia. They have an option in
their driver 'NoRenderExtension' which disables the render module and gives
you your precious colors in pseudocolor mode back!

Another option is to rebuild the X server without render module. It is
doable (I tested it) but the nVidia solution is much more elegant.

Which version of xf4vnc are you using? There was a bug in 101, so Alan
released 102. Please test this version.

[XFree86] UTF-8 and Motif?

2003-08-14 Thread Berge, Harry ten
Hi,

We have an 'old' Motif application that needs to becomeUTF-8 aware for a
Chinese customer. The question is how? Motif doesn't support UTF-8, so
basically the advise that we already had was "go to use Qt or GTK, don't use
Motif (anymore)".

But is this the only alternative? Wouldn't it be possible to use Xf2 /
Freetype from within our Motif application?

[XFree86] mouse pointer freeze

2003-08-05 Thread Berge, Harry ten
Hi,

We have a situation where the mouse pointer freezes in the middle of the
screen and is completely dead. You have to restart the X server to fix
this. I'm suspicious about one of our applications, but could this be
the case? Is it possible for an application to disable the mouse pointer
completely?

Tips are reeally appreciated!

[XFree86] 5.0 features list question

2003-07-23 Thread Berge, Harry ten
Hi,

I saw a list with 5.0 features mentioned on the wiki. There was an entry
'pseudo color emulation', but without detailed info. Can anyone tell me what
this actually is? We have *HUGE* problems with an old pseudo color
application and I was wondering if this could fix it for us...

The nVidia cards work fine too. On top of this, I personally think the linux
support of nVidia is far better than ATI...

Just my 2 cents :-)

logfile is a bit of a problem... The machine is located in China and it's
turned off at the moment.
But, I saw that as far as I can see everything is ok.

Mouse movements are ok, it's works perfectly. But the buttons are totally
wrong. The strange effect is that after the first login/logout it works ok!

Hi,

I have a very strange problem. We have a system (SuSE 7.3 Pro with XFree86
4.2.1 and xdm/mwm) where as you log in the mouse buttons are totally
screwed. When you logout and login again it's fixed.

Does anyone has any clue what this could be?
