works like a charm, thank you...;-)
only dri is not working yet...i get a warning about version mismatch
in my logfile:

[dri] radeon.o kernel module version is 1.1.1 but 1.3.1 or later is
preferred.

(II) RADEON(0): [agp] 8192 kB allocated with handle 0xe498c000
(II) RADEON(0): [agp] ring handle = 0xe000

but later it says, dri is enabled...:

(II) RADEON(0): [drm] failure adding irq handler, there is a device
already using that irq

glxinfo says, there is no direct rendering at all...
any idea where to get version 1.3.1 of the kernel module?

solved too
installed the latest dri package from dri.sourceforge.net and now
everything is fine...;-)

it's 4.2.99.4

using the vesa driver works for me, but it's not that nice...

hi... 

i use gentoo linux and compiled xfree 4.2.99, but things got bad.
xfree compiles fine, but when i try to start it, i get only garbage on
the screen. that means the screen itself looks bad and the mouse cursor
is only a scrappy square.when i switch back, my console also is
garbled... 
i've tried this with my old gentoo 1.2 and now, installed a fresh
1.4rc2, i have the same problem. so i switched back to xfree 4.2.1 and
everything is fine...
