  That might be it. I have exatly FX5700 card. Dont remember exactly what

  My Moderboard has an integrated intel video card (hope that works with

  Uhm. What else could I do if gentoo has not updated its version?
  I think I need to read a bit more on its portage...

  Thank you again for the pointer.

 there's an ebuild + instructions available at:
 http://media.homelinux.org/gentoo
 Gentoo will not include 4.4.0 in portage because of license issues they have.
 I use the ebuild above on various machines and it works perfectly.

 HTH,
 Michael

Thank you. That worked out pretty well.

a rar file is (yet another) compression format.
I listed its contents with rar -l, and it ontains an ms-dos exe file, so
I would ignore it, except for the fact that I would delete it first :-D
... well, I did anyway...

[XFree86] Problem getting xfree to work ( on gentoo )

2004-03-21 Thread David Eduardo Gomez Noguera
Hello. I have a running installation of Fedora and have just started to
get used to gentoo, in another hard drive.
I havent been able to configure gentoo, and dont know what is going on.

I have an MSI nvidia GForce card.
I have tried starting from a fresh XF86Conf from xf86config to starting
from Fedora's

xf86cfg is unusable, as it goes out of sync with the screen almost at
once, and locks the keyboard (i.e. not even the leds will work, so a
hard reboot is in order).
When I configured a vga driver with 8bpp and 640x480, the result was
that the display area was smaller than the screen, and a single term
wouldnt fit.
When I used the nv driver, I would get windows that looked out of sync,
so much that anything was unreadable (except for the osd display of the
monitor)
When I used the nvidia driver, the nvidia splash showed up correctly,
and the windows appeared ok for an instant, then suddenly it all filled
up with different collored squares, like that old c/pascal graphics
demo, more or less... and lock the keyboard too.

Anyone has any idea what can be wrong?
I doubt the XF86Config has anything to do, but here it is, and one log
file
.

It would have been impossible for me to take a screenshot, but anyway I
think it would be too much to put on a mailing list.

 Hey,

 I seem to be having a few probs here. I just upgraded my kernel from 2.4 to
 2.6. The mouse works fine when i boot into 2.4, but it doesn't move with
 2.6. I haven't changed anything in my X config. Here is the kernel options i
 set:

  #
 # Input device support
 #
 CONFIG_INPUT=y

 #
 # Userland interfaces
 #
 CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSEDEV=y
 CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSEDEV_PSAUX=y
 CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSEDEV_SCREEN_X=1280
 CONFIG_INPUT_MOUSEDEV_SCREEN_Y=1024
 # CONFIG_INPUT_JOYDEV is not set
 # CONFIG_INPUT_TSDEV is not set
 # CONFIG_INPUT_EVDEV is not set
 # CONFIG_INPUT_EVBUG is not set

 I decided to detach the mouse from the system and startx, but it didn't give
 any errors? It doesn't give any errors when the mouse is attached either.

 The mouse is a Logitech PS/2 MX700. The X config looks like this:

 Section InputDevice
 Identifier MX700
 Driver mouse
 Option CorePointer
 Option Device /dev/psaux
 Option Protocol IMPS/2
 EndSection

 I used mdetect to detect the mice, and it gives results even when the mouse
 is not connected to the system?

 The X server is the latest in Debian Sid, sorry not sure what version
 exactly, but it'd be probably the latest.

 Umm i think that's it. Anyone got any ideas?

Did you compile the kernel yourself?
I did, but it is possible that mine and yours are different, so try
changing the device to
/dev/imput/mouse0

 card and are just working on the intel card now.

Hello. I think I got that once.
Is your intel video memory maxed out on the bios settings?
It could be that you just have not enough memory for more that 8 bits
(If you are using youre integrated intel video card, that is)
