Well, thats an easy one. Your font path is missing. You have to either start
your font server (try: /etc/init.d/xfs start) or provide a file path to your
fonts, so that xfree can find them.

Mine reside in /usr/lib/X11/fonts/ but thats distribution specific. See your
XFree config file (mostly /etc/X11/XF86Config) and look for Section Files.
Your should see something like:

FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc
FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic
FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled
FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled
FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1
FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/CID
FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo
FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi
FontPath/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi

Check if the path is right, and the files exist, if not install them.

Hope this helps

Im having a few problems as my RedHat 9 machine will not start X server
anymore. Not sure what has caused the problem

It is having problems loading the modules, when I looked in /usr/X11R6/lib I
could not access the modules directory, it said there was an Input/Output
Error.

Something has got messed up, is there a simple way to reinstall X that could
fix the problem?

Thanks

Stephen

[XFree86] Cannot Start X Server...Help?

2003-08-01 Thread Justin Arkin
Title: Message

I am running a P3
with an Nvidia card, everything was running good for about a weekand the
GUI locked up - I had to reboot the machine, and now I can't get X to
start, and I don't know how to read the
dumpfile...HELP!

The machine runs
samba, netatalk, apache, and shoutcast...they all work fine from the command
prompt but I'm no linux guru and I would really like to avoid having to
reinstall the whole OS againto just to get X going...I attatched the
dump file that gets generated when I run startx...any advice would be much
appreciated!

Thanks

Justin

[XFree86] Cannot Start X-Server

2003-06-11 Thread rupak
Hi,
I have a video card Intel 82845G/GL. I am installing Red Hat Linux 8 on
the system. But the X Server cannot start.
The following is the log file:

If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is
newer than the above date, look for a newer version before
reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/)

RE: [XFree86] Cannot Start X-Server

2003-06-11 Thread Cynthia Grossen
You haven't configured your X installation yet. redhat-config-xfree86 is
the command that you'll want to use for that. And no, you don't need to
upgrade to redhat 9 to solve that particular problem.
