2004-06-02 Thread Richard Farnes
I have a similar problem with my Radeon 2500+ 64Mb card and XWindows
configuration on my laptop(You probably mean XWindows conf.problems).Mine
works fine until I try XWindows. Not tried release of Debian yet. Am
working on the problem.

RE: [XFree86] Video Card problems

2004-05-21 Thread Cynthia Grossen
 XFree86 Version 4.1.0.1 / X Window System (protocol Version 11,
revision 0, vendor release 6510) Release Date: 21 December 2001

(--) PCI:*(1:0:0) ATI unknown chipset (0x5157) rev 0, Mem @
0xf000/27, 0xef00/16, I/O @ 0xd800/8, BIOS @ 0xeffe/17

(WW) ATI: PCI/AGP Mach64 in slot 1:0:0 could not be detected!
(EE) No devices detected.

Debian Woody includes an old version of XFree86. And it doesn't support
your video card. You need to upgrade to a newer version of XFree86,
preferably version 4.4 which is available from the XFree86 ftp site or
one of its mirrors. There is also a detailed Readme file which contains
instructions on how to perform the upgrade.
ftp://ftp.xfree86.org/pub/XFree86/4.4.0/binaries/Common/Install

Then you'll need to download this and run it.
ftp://ftp.xfree86.org/pub/XFree86/4.4.0/binaries/Common/Xinstall.sh

The above will tell you which binary packages to download from here.
ftp://ftp.xfree86.org/pub/XFree86/4.4.0/binaries/

If you want to stay within the structure of Debian you can upgrade to
version 4.3. Read this link for their procedures on how to do this.

   What problem exactly?

Perhaps also you can send your /var/log/XFree86.0.log file to
this list so we know exactly what setup you have.

A cirrus logic one from the looks of his server output :)

You don't have an NVIDIA card. You have a Cirrus Logic card:

Either your card isn't supported OR it isn't being auto-detected. Since I
see a note in your log about the card being ISA, I'm leaning towards #2. You
may need to try specifying your video card in the config file rather than
allowing X to guess.

Which Nvidia card are you using?
