2011-05-17 Thread n4dsp
When one makes changes in rigcontrol of hamlib do these values have to
be saved? If so what is the command?

thanks

Re: [Xlog-discussion] Communication error with Xlog

2011-05-17 Thread jack
do you use the CW keyer in Ubuntu 11.04 which uses cwdaemon? if so how
did you get the serial port to respond to the keying? my experience with
10.10 and previous was lovely. now in 11.04 the keyer in Xlog is always
keydown no matter what port i choose.

Whenever I use the mouse to open a menu it takes 20 seconds to open.
I uninstalled libhamlib2 and Xlog and the same thing happens so at this

 John,

I found the following link helpful when I was setting Xlog up to
communicate with my Yaesu FT-450At and FT-817ND (note that the author of
 that post uses Icom gear):

 http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-235687.html

Be sure to follow the initial instructions that tell you how to test the
connection via a terminal window before configuring Xlog. That can go a
long way to reassuring you that you're on the right track.

You probably have a setting in a menu somewhere on your Icom to adjust
the data speed. On my Yaesu rigs, I can change the speeds (I don't
recall the factory default). If the speeds are mismatched, the mismatch
can deliver the error message you get. So will an improperly set comm
 port. I use tty/USB0.

Oh, and I'm running Xlog on Ubuntu 11.04.

If you read the instructions on the page I've shared here, also note
that the Icom rig seems to require an extra setting related to a civ
address. You'll see that in there. He used an Icom 756 Pro II. And note
 his final caution:

 NOTE OF FRUSTRATION:

If you select polling in the xlog window and something goes wrong, xlog
will start to respond like a turtle in antarctica. It will respond but
very slowly. Best not to check polling until you get things to work
unles you are a very patient person or type like mollasses!

 (His typos, not mine! ;-)

 With best regards,

 Pete

right, boot radio then boot Xlog. otherwise Xlog searches forever for
the radio and only starts after the millionth failure.

 Woo-hoo!

I've attached a screenshot of my configuration window in case that might
be of help. If Yahoo doesn't accept the attachment, let me know and I'll
 email it direct.

One other thing: I've found that with my rig, I have to turn my radio on
*before* I boot up Xlog. If I bring up Xlog first, my radio won't turn
on. It may be a Yaesu oddity. But I mention it anyway in case you start
the program first and find your radio won't power up...
