[xmail] Re: spam-address

2003-03-19 Thread Michal Bursa

 Thare are better technics to get rid of spam. Maps and spamassassin ( o=
r
 any other of the 24598 anti-spam tools ) are just two of them.

Hi.

Yes I know these tools. Mapping is fine, but it not works with forwarded=20
mails. Spam-assassin is also very sofisticated tool, but if you use it, y=
ou=20
are in fact accepting all spam (and after whole mail is received, then it=
 is=20
deleted).
   Because I have rather limited connection bandwidth I see using of=20
spam-address and spammers files as very efficient way how to block spam=20
without a lost of bandwidth.

I know that implementing reg-ex is very very difficult, but there exists =
some=20
GNU libraries which might be used. Anyway, I've looked a bit into your so=
urce=20
files and found that in spam-address pattern it is possible to use more=20
options than only * - also ? and [..] is recognized. This should be=
=20
mentioned in the documentation.

Best regards,
Michal Bursa

Davide and Rene,

The combination of these two seems to have worked. Received no errors
on the compile and it looks like it works. I am configuring now so I
will report later today if any issues arise.

XMail rocks!

[xmail] Question

2003-03-19 Thread Peter Lindeman

Hello,

Is it somehow possible to have different queue times in Xmail. Let me
explain what I mean. I want to have XMail retry delivery for a not
available host (but valid MX) much longer than for an invalid host. It
happens a lot that an user of my system sends a mail to an invalid
hostname and XMail retries as long as with a valid hostname.

De slog log is then full of message which start with :

[PeekTime] 1047906260 : Mon, 17 Mar 2003 14:04:20 +0100

ErrCode   = -40
ErrString = Invalid server address

Anybody ?

 Nope, I'm afraid you can't.

Nice option for a future version ?

[xmail] Filter mechanism

2003-03-19 Thread Peter Lindeman

Hello,

Is it correct that mail which is sended from the spool (due to delivery
troubles earlier) is calling the filter everytime when XMail tries to
send the mail ? I'm using 1.12 linux If this is the case it might be
wise for my AV filter to add an X header that this mail was allready
scanned to prevent scanning every time

[xmail] how to set mail forwarding?

2003-03-19 Thread Giang Lam
Hi, I need to set an alias so that [EMAIL PROTECTED] goes to an external address, say
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

If I put the following entry in aliases.tab, the xmail server doesn't seem to accept
the mail and forward it:

mydomain.combogus[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

[xmail] Re: how to set mail forwarding?

2003-03-19 Thread Bill Healy

You can't use aliases to redirect to non local addresses.

You need to create the bogus user as a normal local user and then use
the mailproc.tab with
redirecttab[EMAIL PROTECTED]

[xmail] Format of SMTP log files

2003-03-19 Thread Toby Reiter

Davide (or others),
I didn't see this in (at least) the 1.12 Read me. What is the format
of the SMTP log file? It'd be nice to know what each column means
(many are self-explanatory, but others are more obscure, especially
if they are just empy strings). If I missed this in the docs, please
let me know.

Thanks in advance,
Toby

[xmail] SpamAssassin user preferences on XMAIL

2003-03-19 Thread Riaz

A while ago I asked the list if there was a way to get Spamassassin
and XMAIL to work so that each individual user had their own specific
spamassassin preferences.

I worked over the weekend and was able to get it working, so I will share
my thoughts with the list in case anyone else can get use of this. I will
assume
that you know the basics of compiling spamassassin and running XMAIL.

First of all I had to get the latest spamassassin 2.5.0, because it has an
option for
--virtual-config, that earlier versions of spamassassin did not have.

When you run spamd you can specify the directory of user preferences based
on domain (%d) and local name (%l), so for my server, my spamd command line
options
are as follows:

/usr/bin/spamd -d -x
--virtual-config-dir=/var/MailRoot/domains/%d/%l/spamassassin

If the folder does not exist, spamassassin will create it automatically.

You will then need to create your spamassassin filter, or look at the xmail
webpage
to find links to download prebuilt spamassassin filters. And then put it
into the filters subdirectory
of XMAIL.

In the filters, you may need to change @RCPT to @RRCPT in case you have
aliases,
otherwise spamassassin will create a bunch of folders for any aliases.

Finally, the new spamassassin changes the format of tagged email.
For most intelligent email programs you will have no problem, but I had several
clients with Outlook and Outlook express who were having problems.
Basically Outlook
would completely lock up trying to download any email tagged as spam. What
you will have to do is
add the line

report_safe   0

to your /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf file, and restart spamd. That
should make Spamassassin work properly
with Outlook.

Good Luck!

Riaz..
