Bonjour,

I've partially solved the problem by inserting in xorg.conf the option
NoAccel : no more noise (but so long compiz and good morning for
slow window redraws)
So, after finding that solution, I've tried XAA accel instead of EXA
but with noise again.
It's strange because this card is supposed to accept acceleration
Is it possible to accel a little bit less the hardware to avoid noise ?
perhaps is it a silly question

With this new result, does someone has a better idea ?

Thank for your past (and future) help

Anyway, I'm glad to have obtained this result, even if I want more !

cordialement,

Bonjour,

Humm I wonder, because speakers are off and noise doesn't come from
them anyway. There is only two speakers on the top of the computer
(harman-kardon) and they don't make any noise.

I've looked at KMS with the link you provided, but it seems rather hard
to get it work ; a lot of things to do, and I'm not very good for that

Thank you anyway

It could be that the sound hw is picking up interference from the pixel clock
driving the LVDS. KMS has spread spectrum support for LVDS that might help.

Bonjour,

Today, I've inspected more accurately the computer and removed the hdd plastic
cover. Now, I'm sure, the noise doesn't come from the hdd. It seems that it
come from the video card itself : I hear clearly that noise come from a part
where there is an aperture to let air come in and I suspect this place to be
the videocard one.

A video card that make a sound (tic tic tic tic) like heads of a hdd, it's
quite strange, isn't it ?

Well, if someone has an idea to get the noise go away.

Strangely, the noise doesn't appear with the vesa driver or with the non-free
ati one...

cordialement,

It might be possible audio chip picks up some interference. In particular
unconnected mic inputs are often subject to this, so try muting audio to see if
the sound comes from there. Otherwise I'm not sure where the sound could come
from - what you describe doesn't look like it could be coil whine (I don't
think that would happen with these low power mobile chips anyway).

Well, sound is off, the noise doesn't come from speakers.

What is coil whine ?

I noticed that when manually playing with registers some day. However it was
newer RV620 and happened on scrolling page in browser.

Do you use reduced backlight? Can you check if backlight level affects noise?

Backlight is another story because the fn buttons don't work ; fortunately,
I've found a little prog that do the job in sudo mode.

But changing backlight level don't change noise at all
