SI and newer only support glamor. So that is the only option.

Possibly.  More important would be to make sure vdpau is enabled properly for
hw accelerated video decoding and that the app you are using for playback is
properly configured.

Would it improve performance if I configure glamor for the PC running with the
Radeon HD 7750 also ?

And even more important: I have set up a multimedia PC for my parents with an
on-board Radeon HD 4200. It has sometimes performance problems playing
HD-video. Would glamor help there ?
