[Yade-users] [Question #707806]: JCFmat model - UCS Prediction - How "intRadius" affect the models?

2023-08-31 Thread Mahdi
New question #707806 on Yade:
https://answers.launchpad.net/yade/+question/707806

Dear All,

I am currently facing a significant challenge while conducting UCS tests using
the JCFmat model. The issue revolves around the parameter "intRadius," and I
would appreciate your insights into its impact on the models.

The problem arises when I set "intRadius" to 1.5. At this value, the UCS
measures approximately 20 MPa. However, when I increase "intRadius" to 2.0, the
UCS drastically jumps to around 200 MPa.

In the second trial, the stress-strain curve deviates from the typical curve
observed in our other tests. It initially exhibits an elastic stage up to 50
MPa, followed by a small peak, and then transitions into another elastic stage
with a lower slope until it reaches the peak at 200 MPa. I suspect that the
issue lies with the "intRadius" parameter. Does anyone have insights into what
might be causing this?

For reference, I am using the approach outlined in the paper available at
https://hal.science/hal-01315522/. It would be immensely helpful if someone
could provide a code snippet used in this paper for simulating the UCS test.

Thank you for your assistance.

Best regards,
Mahdi

Thank you, Robert.

I've gained some valuable insights. I'm currently in the process of
developing a function to measure the radial strain in "cube" specimens.
My approach involves defining a "measuring zone" by selecting a band of
particles at the top, center, and bottom of the specimen. Subsequently,
we can calculate the average strain in both the x and y directions. The
average of these two values can then be used as the radial strain.

For "cyl" specimens, the process is a bit more complex. We'll need to
measure the radial displacement of each particle within the band, and
we'll also need to determine the local coordinates of the particles to
calculate the radial direction accurately.

Any advice is highly appreciated.

I'll be sure to share the results once I obtain some meaningful
outcomes!

Thanks again.

Hi Everyone,

I am conducting a UCS test on cylindrical rock specimens using the JCFmat
model. I need to measure the radial strain of the specimen. Is there any
specific function or method available in YADE to accomplish this?

Regards,
Mahdi

[Yade-users] [Question #707938]: How to measure local strain rate within YADE particle assembly

2023-09-15 Thread Mahdi
New question #707938 on Yade:
https://answers.launchpad.net/yade/+question/707938

Dear YADE community,

I want to measure the local strain rate [Velocity Tensor] within YADE particles
(for a selected zone within a UCS specimen).
Specifically, I am looking for an infinitesimal strain tensor, rotation tensor
as well as velocity gradient tensor.
It would be great if anyone has any ideas.

Many thanks,
Mahdi

Mahdi gave more information on the question:
Hi Jan,

I appreciate your prompt response.

I am aware that the "UniaxialStrainer" feature can be activated,
allowing us to measure axial strain using the equation Axial_Strain =
-strainer.strain. However, it gives the global strain values
(Macroscopic response). Unfortunately, my search in the YADE manual has
not yielded any functions or methods directly related to obtaining local
strain information within the particle assembly.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could share any insights or
recommend any functions or methods that can help us obtain the local
strain data.

Thank you for your assistance.
Mahdi

Hi Robert,

Many thanks for your reply!
I believe I've resolved the issue. The problem was with the value of
"intRadius." I'm not entirely sure what it represents, but I increased it to
1.5, and now the model is functioning correctly.

Previously, when it was set to 1.3, the model was only controlled by tensile
strength. However, increasing the cohesion had no observable effect.
Do you know what is "intRadius"?

Thanks
