[delicious-discuss] Target Your News integrated with del.icio.us

2006-04-15 Thread Amir Michail
Hi,

Target Your News has now been integrated with del.icio.us.

As mentioned in a previous email, Target Your News is a social news
site with a twist: it is the submitter of a URL who is responsible
for recommending it to those people who are likely to be interested.

See a description here:
http://groups.google.com/group/TargetYourNews/browse_thread/thread/756821b6c813835f

Although it takes more work to submit news than
del.icio.us/digg/reddit/slashdot, you might want to use this if you
would like more control over the propagation of your news. Note that
advertising/self-promotion is fine and actually encouraged here.

Moreover, the process of targeting your news is a real-time game and
could be fun. (See the description at the url above.)

With del.icio.us integration, you can have the service take your
del.icio.us bookmarks as liked. This is done by sampling your rss
feed to pick up new bookmarks.

If a reasonable number of del.icio.us users import their bookmarks in
this way, then we can get started quickly with recommendations and
targeting.

To import your del.icio.us bookmarks as liked via your rss feed:

* register and login @ targetyournews.com (no email required)
* enter your del.icio.us name under Del.icio.us Import

After a day or so, you will start to see your recent bookmarks being
imported as liked.

So this means you can now receive recommendations, provided of course
that submitters target their news to you.

Some notes:

* both top and new refer to your personal recommendations
* the submitter determines who will receive the submission as a recommendation
  (under both top and new)
* the submission score determines its ranking in your top recommendations list
* a poorly targeted URL will have a low score, thus ranking low under top
* whenever you submit a URL, don't forget to target it by clicking
target submission (without targeting, it will not be recommended to
anyone!)
* to target a submission, enter other URLs that are used to determine
the sort of people to target and avoid (try clicking Submissions
then target submission in the demo account to see what I mean)
* you can check up on your targeting rules frequently to get back
feedback on how well they are working, so you can modify your
targeting rules if necessary (this is the real-time game part)

On Monday morning, at approximately 10AM eastern time, the discuss

[EMAIL PROTECTED] The discuss@del.icio.us address will now

Will the gmane gateway still work?
