[Zeitgeist] [Bug 919801] Re: Unity dash file search is extremely slow
Thanks for taking time to report and helping to make ubuntu better. Its been a while since bug was reported, there have been alot of changes in Unity over the last couple of months. Can you please try the latest ISO of the Ubuntu 12.04 beta and let us know if the issue have been resolved for you. ** Changed in: unity Status: New = Incomplete ** Changed in: zeitgeist Status: New = Incomplete ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Zeitgeist Framework Team, which is subscribed to Zeitgeist Framework. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/919801 Title: Unity dash file search is extremely slow Status in Unity: Incomplete Status in Zeitgeist Framework: Incomplete Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: When I try to use the Unity dash search feature to navigate to files and folders, it is extremely slow. For example, if I hit the super button to launch the search and then type Pictures to get my pictures directory, it takes almost 5 seconds for the folder icon to show. In comparison, if I use Gnome-Do to navigate to my Pictures folder, it's basically instant. However there is a problem since the search feature relies wholly on zeitgeist (AFAIK), in the zeitgeist is not tracking everything. E.g. in openoffice, I create a new file (or open an existing one) from within openoffice itself. This file does not show up, presumably because openoffice does not (yet) push its activity to zeitgeist. I guess any number of other programs could suffer the same problem. For the average user, this is surely going to be confusing. They will create documents via legitimate means ('New ...' buttons in their applications), and then expect to be able to search for them in the Unity files-place interface. To avoid this confusion I would guess there really needs to be a filesystem watcher on the home dir (or key folders within it) so that zeitgeist is aware of activity caused by non-zeitgeist-aware applications. (See also bug 897393, about warning users that the search doesn't search all files.) Could you attach a screenshot of the problem? bug 792690 seems similar to this issue. Do you have any steps that I could take to reproduce this bug that would be helpful. ** Changed in: unity Status: New = Incomplete ** Project changed: zeitgeist = null -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Zeitgeist Framework Team, which is subscribed to Zeitgeist Framework. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/804712 Title: Unity panel does not disapear on fullscreen Status in NULL Project: Invalid Status in Unity: Incomplete Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: When a application is set to fullscreen the unity panel stays visible and covers a part of the application To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/null/+bug/804712/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~zeitgeist Post to : zeitgeist@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~zeitgeist More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Zeitgeist] [Bug 780841] Re: The files lens includes folders that don't exist
Just tested, It seems the favorite folders are the one's that we see in Nautilus 'bookmarks' menu(obvious) if any folder is removed from that menu it is cleanly removed from the Dash as well. But if you delete any of the bookmarked folders by hand, they are cleanly removed from the 'Bookmarks' menu instantly but they remain in the dash. ** Project changed: zeitgeist = unity-lens-files ** Changed in: unity-lens-files Status: Invalid = Confirmed ** Package changed: unity (Ubuntu) = unity-place-files (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: unity-place-files (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: unity Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Zeitgeist Framework Team, which is subscribed to Zeitgeist Framework. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/780841 Title: The files lens includes folders that don't exist Status in Unity: Confirmed Status in Unity Files Lens: Confirmed Status in “unity-place-files” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: unity The first thing I do after I install ubuntu is cd ~; rmdir * to remove the folders that I don't use. (I already have analogs in another partition that I mount as ~/data.) However, these folders (~/Downloads, ~/Documents, ~/Pictures, ~/Videos) show up in the Dash's search results even though the folders don't exist. I see these ghost folders in Top Results when searching by invoking the dash, using Find Files, or using Files Folders. I tried clearing my zeitgeist history: rm ~/.local/share/zeitgeist/activity.sqlite zeitgeist-daemon --replace But these folders still show up.
