Re: [zfs-discuss] Best SXCE version for ZFS Home Server
Another question: My MoBo has a JMB (363 I think) SATA controller. I know support is included now in sxce, but I don't know for s10U6. I answer myself: I tries S10u6 and the Jmicron AHCI controller is not recognized. I tried the install check CD and it's weird: it lists the controller as supported but does not recognize the disks attached to it. It also does not recognize my rge0 net interface (However I think it does not really work either in sxce) Vincent ___ zfs-discuss mailing list zfs-discuss@opensolaris.org http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/zfs-discuss
Re: [zfs-discuss] Best SXCE version for ZFS Home Server
Hi, If Zone Cloning via ZFS snapshots is the only feature you miss in S10u6, then you should reconsider. Writing a script to implement this yourself will require only a little experimentation. It is the only feature I miss now, because it is the only one I know of, because I don't know exactly which features have been backported to S10U6. I just found this: http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/whats_new.jsp I lists Solaris 10 features and is a first hint at what features are in. Another question: My MoBo has a JMB (363 I think) SATA controller. I know support is included now in sxce, but I don't know for s10U6. Is there a changelog for S10U6 somewhere like for SXCE ? Silly me, I didn't scroll down far enough to see the bug description on the patch readme page. Or you could go with the commercial, rock solid release called Solaris U6 (Update 6) recently released. Where can I find advice on these earlier versions with few relevant warts. When I look at forums, I see good and bad for each release. Also, S10U6 does not have features that I need (Zones ZFS cloning). Also, as I have no support contract with sun (home user), I am not sure if I will get patches or not. In any case, load the release you choose, play with it for a week or so, while running the type of apps you intend to run and see if it works for you. After that, consider it production and load up all your precious data. I'll try to do that Also - to add yet another dimension to the decision making process - os2008.11 is due out any day now. I think that this release will be a winner. You can download and eval the Release Candidate from http://www.genunix.org/ (based on 101a). The production release can't be far away. To a large extent, os2008.nn will be a better long-term choice, since it incorporates the new package update facility. So you'll be able to upgrade any problem binaries very easily and with very little of something going very wrong. I'd love to go with os2008.nn, but the zones features are too different. I need sparse zones (and branded zones for linux perhaps). Also, I don't have a fast internet connection, so fetching everything from the web every time I create a zone is a bit of a problem. [zfs-discuss] Best SXCE version for ZFS Home Server
Hi everyone, I will shortly install a ZFS Home Server and I am wondering which version I should install. I will use zones on my server and heavily use zone cloning, so I think it rules out S10U6. I also ruled out Indiana because of the lack of normal zones. So I will be using SXCE. Which version should I use ? I would like something recent for the latest drivers, but I was wondering if there are versions to avoid. Will the lastest one (b101) be stable enough ?
