Try zfs mount -a and check to see if it gets mounted or gives you an error, since zfs won't mount over things like automounted filesystems or existing directories. The filesystem in question wasn't in ZFS, it was/is still in UFS, and I've had no in the mount at boot column in /etc/vfstab.
