Re: [Zim-wiki] Zim history usage

2015-02-21 Thread Rolf Kleef
How will it impact keyboard navigation?

I usually use keyboard navigation to work with the most recent 2, 3 or 4
pages, with Recent pages in the pathbar (to avoid duplicates and have
more historically nearby pages at hand). Keyboard navigation then
doesn't match the display: sometimes I have to move back, sometimes forward.

If there's a simple way to move two/three/... pages back via the
keyboard, with a Recent pages list as visual cue, that would be great!
(A bit like most recent files menus or most clipboard managers work?)

Thanks!
~~Rolf.

What I mean is this: for example, if you navigate from page A to
page B then again to page A and again to B (without using the
 'back' button), your history will look like A - B - A - B and
clicking 'back' repeatedly will switch back and forth between these
 pages.

In comparison, the recent pages view in the pathbar would only
show B, A and forget about the redundant occurrences of both pages
 in the sequence.

Now if as a user you just want to find back pages you recently
accessed the later is enough. But if you need a strict sequence that
you can play back, the first is what you need.

So my question is: can we remove the strict history and only support
recent page - or is there a good use case that uses the history as
a sequence? What do you use the history for ?

(As you may have guessed, just supporting the recent pages without
the strict sequence allows me to remove some code and additional
 accounting)

+1 on the simpler way, can't even imagine what use the strict history mode
would be good for.

Now a *longer* breadcrumb trail would be very useful.

As would moving re-visited page buttons to the rightmost most recent
position rather than keeping them off to the left.
