In my 8100, I have an 18GB SCSI drive. It is an IBM with a 50-pin
connector. In an external case, I have a 9GB drive with an 80-pin
connector, connected through a 80-to-50-pin converter. I used to have a
huge (physically) 23GB drive in an external case (68-pin with a converter to
50-pin), but it failed on me.  I'm sure even bigger drives will work fine;
SCSI seem to be good about being backward compatible. The only trick
(sometimes) is the formatting software. My 18GB drive can be formatted with
Apple's Drive Setup utility. My 9GB drive (a Western Digital) needed a
third party utility (I used FWB Hard Disk Toolkit) for formatting. Once
formatted, it has been working just fine, and is actually noticeably faster
than the two internal "true" 50-pin drives (the 18GB and another 2GB).
