The Wild Kingdom has been a bit seldom as of late due to KFJC's Month
of Mayhem ( http://www.kfjc.org/mayhem/ ). Last weekend's Wild Kingdom
was preempted by a 24 hr Throbbing Gristle special (can't complain about
that, as TG was one of my early favorites on KFJC). The weekend
preceding that,
Got this in my in-box today

So what's the verdict this year? Should I be kicking myself for
missing an incredible few days or did I dodge a mediocre festival
bullet? Def in for next year though.

There were some great sets in the festival, and some great
afterparties. Mixed in with all that there was some complete
nonsense, which was easily avoidable. The sound at the underground
stage was criminal, and unfortunately really detracted from the sets
of some of the best performers.

My biggest complaint last year was the lack of diversity in the
audience. My shouting complaint was that there's got to be something
wrong when the Country Hoedown Festival has more people of color than
the Techno Festival. This year I was pleasnatly surprised to see this
change. There was a
Claude Young's DJ Kicks and Welcome to Central second CD are quite nice,

I went to this party. Neither hell nor high water could have kept me away.
Juan's first set was hands down ***THE*** most memorable set of the
entire weekend! He truly sent me!!
Jeff was good, though his set seemed to be lacking momentum.
Does anyone know who the DJ was who played
I quite like the Jeff Mills - Exhibitionist mix CD he put out a couple of
years ago:

Very smooth mixing. Also available as a DVD with a couple of other mixes
on it by Jeff.

I'm convinced that you have Juan and Jeff confused. Either that or we
weren't at the same party, because the lineup that i saw (with my very
own eyes from about 3 feet from the dj rig) went something like this:
main room (big warehouse room with rounded stage up front)
?-1 AM Buzz Goree
1 AM -
Unless my eyes and ears deceived me, Juan started around 1am and played
a very short set then Jeff took over. After Jeff's set, Juan came on
again and played until 6am.

It was Buzz before Jeff. I didn't see Juan until 4AM, and I was in
the room the whole time. BTW It was good to see Jeff, but Buzz KILLS
every time out.

thanks Kent, I was afraid I was losing my mind for a split second
there. but then I remembered I was sitting on the stage the entire
time buzz played. darnistle - the dude who was on directly before
jeff was buzz goree, i assure you. :) i mean, i am 99% sure it was
buzz, and 100% sure it
Heh, I took Buzz around looking for his preferred cigars in Iowa City.
No mistaking him for Juan.

The guy who played before Juan's first set looked like he might be in
his 20s-30s, mocha skin tone, maybe Hispanic. He played a lot of
Pacou-style stuff and several Jeff Mills tracks.
I just googled Buzz Goree and he looks totally different from the guy I saw.
Don't act like I'm trippin',

we're talking about the party at tangent gallery/warehouse on sunday
night, right? what time are you saying juan's first set was, and
when was his second?
On Wed,
Yes, it was at Tangent gallery.
I got there before midnight and the youngish DJ I described below was
spinning.
Around 1am or so, Juan came on. He played for maybe 30 minutes.
Then Jeff played until maybe 4am (I wasn't watching the time).
Then Juan played again until 6am.
