The recreate form from scratch may not be a bad idea. They (4D) have done a great job with maintaining compatibility, but things have changed. For the question as to why it redraws, at a fundamental level, ah, no, but agree it can be frustrating. There's one more trick I've used in the past.

So, so true. Without further evidence I'm not going to plead guilty to wrapping a single 4D command. But a 'Relate' method with clearly marked parameters for $many_field_p, $one_field_p helps me avoid remembering the syntax for Query with Whoosit, Selection from Whatsit or something like that. I
