Re: Comparing two structures...

Many thanks to: Miyako, Tom, Wane, Dani & Randy!

I do need to see the methods…. The V17r3 method is the most comprehensive, so
my plan is to adopt that approach.

Thanks for your thoughtful responses,

Robert

A clean install of newest Windows 10 dos not include XPS Viewer. This means
that SET PRINT PREVIEW does not work. It is possible to download XPS Viewer,
but I expect Microsoft is (or have) developed an alternative. Is there a

2019-03-14 Thread Developer Myraid via 4D_Tech
Some people use the word "Preview” to describe software that not be used in
production. some use Beta ,
4D uses R# to describe non production software

I personally use beta and will have multiple beta releases.

The R# nomenclature is a fine strategy, its then easy to see the non-production
development progression

Re: Delay Worker Process

2019-03-14 Thread Cannon Smith via 4D_Tech
Hi Gabriel,

Part of what gets logged isn’t know at the time I know something needs to be
logged. The code is easiest if I can say, “Hey, please log this situation” and
have the actual logging happen a few seconds later. As I said, this is a quick
a dirty injection of some logging code to track down a bug. Not the normal
thing.

However, I changed my method of doing this yesterday so I’m not using workers
anymore. Just a background process and some interprocess arrays. Not the cool
new way, but it does work.

Thanks.

John,
you may have already seen this but
From the "houses" mouth:

if the above doesn't work...
based on the directory, it seems that either you, or 4D is trying to
create a temporary file that already exists.
Have you checked your code to insure that any file(s) you try to create
do not exist before issuing some thing lie CREATE DOCUMENT, or DOCUMENT

have you looked into the "Print object" command?

you don't need to duplicate an object,
you can print the same object as many times as you like,
at any position (decimal, not integer positioning)

with 17R you can define an object (JSON) representation of a form from
 scratch,
or take an existing form, convert to JSON and add or subtract objects.

Re: Delay Worker Process

2019-03-14 Thread GI -AJAR via 4D_Tech
Hi,

Why do you need to run the check after few seconds? We use this same kind of
worker to write logs in files. As you said, the worker assure the file not to
be opened. So in this contexte you know your file is accessible. You can still
have an error handler to handle the case where there is an unexpected issue. We
have a log table for those rare cases.

I didn't try but a delay process should work in a worker but I would say it is
not optimal as it will make the stack of the messages to wait seconds before to
be processed. A worker should be fast so the next messages can be process
quickly. But it depend on the number of log request you send to the worker.
