There's no difference in how an array is populated - it's a list of values
in memory.

Perhaps the best approach would be for you to try the command and see if
you get the desired result.

I am aware of what an array is. I'm not sure if you're being serious or not at 
this point.

But from the docs:

The functions of this theme perform calculations on a series of values.

The Average, Max, Min, Sum, Sum squares, Std deviation and Variance functions 
are applied to fields or arrays:

When applied to fields, they use the current selection of records,
When applied to arrays, they use array elements.


Each command has examples. Also from the docs:

Example 2  

This example gets the highest value in the array:

 ARRAY REAL($ArrGrades;0)
 QUERY([Exams];[Exams]Exam_Date=!01/07/11!)
 SELECTION TO ARRAY([Exams]Exam_Grade;$ArrGrades)
 vMax:=Max($ArrGrades)
