I'll be down to work on the 3D printer and Kicad. To finish the printer, I am in need of 2 precision-sized springs, specifically: 2x 12mm OD and made of 8 turns of 0.9mm zinc-plated spring steel wire. The free length is 30mm I forgot to order them and it might be fun to actually make these using a slow drill and some spring wire. Does anyone have any spring wire or know where I can get some this eve? A thread of steel rope (e.g. from as bikelock cable) [1] or music wire(?) [2] are another options. Cheers, Ed P.s. Maplin / Screwfix don't stock anything useful. [57north-discuss] Twitter/facebook/g+ links
The 57N site currently has a scary red popup on the google+ link. This picks on G+ and not twitter or facebook because in EFFs 2013 Who has your back?scorecard thing[1] google+ didn't get a full set of stars. But this is out of date. All three got a full set of stars in the 2014 report[2], and then EFF changed what the stars are for this year and none of the three get a full set anymore[3]. I don't like the scary popup, and think the EFF scorecards over simplify a complex issue (though they can be useful for starting a discussion, I can't see a good way to have that discussion with people following links on our site). I'd like to remove the popup from the G+ link but thought I'd best ask before just doing it... [57north-discuss] Website updates
I've had a bash at updating the website - mostly just deleting stuff that was out of date. You can see what I've changed at https://github.com/hackerdeen/website There is a live version of the new site at https://57north.org.uk/new/website/ If there is anything else that you think should be changed: please shout (or, even better, give a pull request). Unless there are any objections (that I agree with) I'll push the changed version live in a couple of days.
