Yes, it is possible to disable validation for specific names.

For individual machines, OpenBSD has unwind(8) to try to handle this
issue. The PPP connection doesn't seem to indicate which DNS servers to
use though (I was expecting it to come via IPCP), or at least pppd(8)
ignores them and unwind only looks at DHCP information.

If we pick some names we can try it out next time we run out of credit.

This is now fixed. The problem was that the cellular account was out of
credit.

The problem was somewhat hidden by our use of a DNSSEC-validating
recursive resolver. Attempts to redirect users to the top up page were
seen as attacks and blocked (correctly).
