I happened to resolve this issue and sharing about it here just in
case anyone here faces the same. I uninstalled the Android
Accessibility Suite from the Playstore and reinstalled it back again.
It fixed it and the keyboard works as before.

If using nvda, I believe shift+nvda key + s should give you access to speaker
notes.
Check the nvda manual, the keystroke is there.
Jaws too has a way of accessing speaker notes. I cannot recall what it is.
