Hi

It may be possible, your office may have blocked GMail.

Try using the web interface in Internet explorer and see if it opens there.

Also check up with your network engineer if that port is blocked.

World's first talking TV now a reality

June 8th, 2010 - 13:36 UTC

by Andy Sennitt.

TVs that can talk to their owners are now a reality thanks to British high-tech
company, Ocean Blue Software. Expected in UK stores by the end of the summer,
the company's low cost text-to-speech technology, dubbed "t...@tv", is being
built into set top boxes from Korean company, Arion Technology, which will be
branded and distributed by major retailers in the UK from August.

The new set top boxes are like regular Freeview or satellite boxes, but will be
able to talk to their blind or partially-sighted owners - advising, via speech
technology, the TV programming schedule, for example what's on and when. Owners
will be able to adjust the speed and verbosity of the voice to suit their
needs, choose to enlarge or reduce font sizes and change background and text
colours. A re-designed and easy to use remote control will also be included.

The technology has been developed in partnership with digital TV chip giant,
STMicroelectronics, whose processors lie at the heart of most TVs and set top
boxes. Phase two of the development will introduce voice activation technology
to allow owners to talk back to their TV sets - "channel up", "channel down",
"volume up".

"The digital switchover has multiplied the number of channels to 40 plus, for
UK consumers, making navigation very difficult for the visually impaired," said
Ken Helps, CEO of Ocean Blue Software. "This technology is a step forward to
making digital TV accessible to all sectors of the community".

Ocean Blue's t...@tv will be available in different languages and dialects; the
UK version supports both the Scottish Gaelic and Welsh language for example.
The technology behind t...@tv is a derivative of the pioneering work and
development between the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) and Ocean
Blue over the last three years. The development won an IABM Award for
Excellence in Design and Innovation, was nominated for a Royal Television
Society award and shortlisted for an IMS TV Innovation award in the USA.

The Arion Talking set top box will be available in a number of UK retailers.

Anyway, I somehow feel that this is the right time that I introduce myself to

Well my name is Bhoomika. I am from Lucknow. I have pursued my graduation in
Journalism and Mass Communication and then got a chance to work with Eyeway for

And I have RP.

Presently, I am preparing for GRE and TOEFL exam as i wish to go abroad for
higher studies.

Looking forward to know more and having a great time interacting with all of

Let me try and clarify a few points here:

1. iPhone 3G (which is still available in India) is not accessible at all.

So, just forget about.

2. iPhone 3GS is also available in India and it has VoiceOver and Zoom

functionality. VoiceOver is a full-fledged screen reader and provides access

to most of the built-in apps and third-party apps. It does not provide

limited access.

3. As far as I am aware, SayText may only work with the new iPhone 4 and not

with any other models. I may be wrong but I don't thing the camera on the

3GS and 3G is sufficient for OCR.

Look at www.maccessibility.net for reviews of the iPhone 3GS.

Kiran

The point about I-phone 3g is correct and that's universal since they

don't have voiceover feature. You can access almost everything with

voiceover on 3gs. There could be some difficulties until you get used

to the touch screen interface, but that's about it. As I mentioned

before, typing could be a bit slow, but it should be possible to input

short messages with the touch screen interface. Much like other screen

readers, there is an in-build help is available to learn the screen

navigation with voiceover.
