*Roundtable on Women with Disabilities organised by Women’s Studies
Research Centre Calcutta University in collaboration with Sruti Disability
Rights Centre*

Women with disabilities remain doubly marginalized because of being woman
first and secondly for being disabled. Also majority of them face poverty
in their lives and thus suffer from further discrimination. Unfortunately
this group of disadvantaged women did not get much attention from
disability movement or womens movement for very long. In the present time,
however, we are seeing changes and one can say that discourses on disabled
women are occupying more spaces. In this context, Women Studies Research
Centre is organising a Roundtable on the issue of Women with Disabilities
on 30th March 2013 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tentative Programe Schedule :

Introduction by Prof. Ishita Mukhopadhyay, Director, Women's Studies
Research Centre, University of Calcutta

Education : Situational analysis vis-a vis women with disabilities. – Prof.
 Ruma Chatterjee, Vice President, SVH.

 Violence on Women with Disabilities: Verma Committee, Ordinance & New Law
on Rape – Shampa Sengupta, Activist.

In Their Own Voice  : Kuhu Das, Jeeja Ghosh.
