Jammu (PTI): During the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Braille-enabled
electronic voting machines (EVMs) would enable visually impaired voters to vote
without
assistance for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Braille-enabled EVMs would be used in the forthcoming LS polls to enable
visually impaired voters to exercise their right of franchise for the first time
in Jammu and Kashmir," state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), B R Sharma told
PTI.

"With this system visually impaired people would be able to vote without any
assistance," he said.

Giving further details, he said the Devnar School of Blind, Mumbai has been
approached for preparing Braille-enabled list of contesting candidates which
will be loaded on the EVMs to enable visually impaired persons to cast their
