Hi All, Please go through the press release
Issued today by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. 13-June-2011 17:32 IST Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Mukul Wasnik Release the Braille Edition of Jawaharlal Nehru's Letters from a Father to his Daughter. Film Festival on disability concluded in Teen Murthi House. The Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Mukul Wasnik has said that publishing of the Braille Edition of Jawaharlal Nehru's "Letters from a Father to his Daughter" will help dissemination of information about Nehru among the visually challenged. The Minister praised the idea by Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, NMML, to bring out the Braille Edition of one of Nehru's most celebrated works and making it a reality. Speaking at the closing ceremony of Film Festival on disability, he said the collection contains 30 letters written by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1928, introducing his young daughter, Indira, to the fascinating study of natural history and the story of civilisations. He said, through these letters Panditji instilled the feelings of nationalism and patriotism for her country and the importance of freedom for India. Though written in 1928, these letters still remain fresh and vibrant and capture Nehru's love for people and for nature. The Blind Persons Association of Kolkata approached NMMl in 2009 with a request to publish the Braille edition of these letters. It wanted to distribute this among the blind schools and organisations across the country to spread awareness about Nehru. Since the aim of the NMML is to spread awareness about Nehru's vision and his contribution to India's freedom movement, it was thought appropriate to support the proposal that would spread knowledge, amongst the visually challenged about Nehru through his own writing and work.
