Students with autism to get sops in exams - Times of India

MUMBAI: After over a month, Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher
Secondary Education issued a circular, granting language concessions to
students with autism for March 2020 SSC exams. Last October's GR, which
revised concessions for students with disabilities, had left out the rule
allowing students with autism to drop two languages and opt for work
experience. The issue came to light when Mumbai division officials did not
allow students to drop languages as "concessions were dropped". Parents
support group, Forum for Autism, met education department officials and
Nair Hospital doctors wrote to them. The board agreed to grant them in
principle and issued a letter, but schools waited for final orders. "After
the August 21 letter was sent, we have been contacting the officer
concerned. We were promised it after the festival season, but it kept
getting delayed. As schools are getting ready for term exams, they are
asking parents for the circular," said a parent. Finally, the board issued
the circular on September 27.
