Re: [AI] Job Vacancy at BarrierBreak - Mumbai
Hello, As far as I know, mostly within corporate sector, selary details would not be mentioned in the advertisement and usually be discussed during HR discussion that will happen post selection of technical round etc., No one would be forced to work on a particular salary. Candidate has every opportunity to accept or decline the offer. As far as BarrierBreak is concerned, I have worked with them and I know for sure a qualitative training will be provided during first few months. I believe a good negotiation will happen for proven expertise candidate. exactly, this is very strange. lot of times, I was saw the job postings on the lists/social networks without Mentioning the Salary part. once the person get selected, they has to work for just for 1 to 2 rs per month. and, sorry to say this, it looks like insulting the testers as well. so, requesting the person to exchange the salary info, so that, if the people is Interested or starvation for the job, they might contact/attend the interviews. [AI] Being Born Blind Didn't Stop This Delhi Man From Becoming A Photographer A new point of view.
great to read about Pranav's photography skills in Huffingtonpost today! Being Born Blind Didn't Stop This Delhi Man From Becoming A Photographer A new point of view. Meet Pranav Lal, a Delhi based cybersecurity expert who likes programming, reading books, travel and photography. He was also born blind. Yet, his visual impairment hasn't stopped Lal from pursuing his passion for photography, pushing his sensory and creative boundaries in the process. Lal can distinguish between light and darkness, and he relies on a technology called vOICe that works like an artificial eye to help visually impaired people with navigation. Lal uses vOICe to help him take photos. The vOICe software converts images taken by a camera into sounds by panning them from left to right, and maps the elevation of an object through the pitch and its brightness through loudness. Lal listens to these sounds through his headphones, and then uses a second camera to click photos. "The beauty of the technology is that you can remotely sense shapes and compose your own shots," he told *HuffPost India*. "Otherwise, say, if I want to photograph a tree, but it doesn't make a sound, I won't get that perspective. This allows me to get the foreground and background." Lal uses vOICe for everything from navigation to designing web pages. He took up photography in 2001, when he came across the Seeing with Sound initiative, which works on vOICe. He taught himself how to use the new technology remotely, by communicating with other international users on an online mailing group. He has been honing his skills over the last 15 years, and says he especially enjoys taking pictures while travelling and on festivals such as Diwali. Since vOICe cannot recognise facial features yet, Lal focuses on landscapes, especially nature, buildings, and machinery. "I have been born with this. I have adapted extremely well. I had an augmented sense and I wanted to showcase it visually," Lal explained. "How do I show you what I see? Through photography. This technology gives me the ability to see." A new video produced by the online portal *101 India* narrates Lal's inspiring story and explains the technology he uses. "Blindness is a state of mind more than a sensory impairment," he says in the video. "People who have the biological ability of sight but still don't see could still be called blind." http://www.huffingtonpost.in/2016/10/17/this-photographer-was-born-blind/ -- Warm regards, Subhash Chandra Vashishth Mobile: +91 (11) 9811125521 Please don't print this e-mail unless you really need to. Re: [AI] Problem in opening salary for VI employee with HDFC bank
Hi Shekhar, I also faced similar issue before with HDFC. But 2 statements made HDFC to accept my request for account opening. I told that manager similar to the one below. "now that you have seen the circular from RBI and still you are not ready to fulfill what I needed, I am fine with it. How about I take legal action against your ignorance?" Soon after this, she kept quiet and agreed to issue me all banking facilities. After 5 minutes, i received the banking kit. [AI] Abhinav Singh reports for the Statesman: Delhi University: Visually Impaired teacher seeks normal life partner
A visually impaired teacher of Delhi University has expressed his disillusionment at being unable to marry a physically 'normal' woman because of societal constraints. http://www.thestatesman.com/news/delhi/visually-impaired-teacher-seeks-normal-life-partner/169088.html He said marriage between disabled and normal persons is an 'effective' way to incorporate the differently abled into the mainstream and end discrimination. Yogesh Chaurasia, 42, an assistant professor of political science at DU's Maitreyi College is still unmarried as he has turned down several proposals of marrying differently abled girls in his quest to get a physically normal life partner. "If I marry, I will marry a normal girl," he stressed. Chaurasia said society acts with an 'orthodoxical' and 'prejudiced' mindset as it easily gives sanction to matrimonial ties between two normal persons but looks down upon marriage of a normal person with a disabled one. "I had vehemently refused to accept several proposals of marriage with physically disabled or visually impaired girls. I turned down many such proposals in the past and I am really annoyed at and bewildered by those who approach me with such proposals," said Yogesh. He said he has no reservations in marrying a physically disabled girl but wants to set an example that physical disability cannot be the cause of 'rejection' and 'neglect' of a person. He said there is no support from his family members either who also cannot think 'out of box', "Even my parents are of the view that I should marry a disabled girl, but it's my personal view that marriages between differently abled and normal persons will help in bringing Divyangs into mainstream of society," said Chaurasia. "Physically disabled persons are also human beings and have desires similar to those of normal persons. Sometimes I have a strong urge to have a life partner but I have diverted all my energy into academics," said Yogesh. He said many 'normal' men pretend to be blind only to have girls sympathising with them. "Many normal persons pretend to be blind in metros , buses and public places and only look for opportunity to inappropriately touch or feel young girls who come to their aid out of sympathy, this has maligned the image of blind people and girls now look at all blind persons suspiciously”, he said. Sympathy, no love "Most people help us out of sympathy but there is no element of love in it. Sympathy cannot be misunderstood for love," said the professor. "By sympathising with us you make us feel that as if we are some helpless creatures but we want to tell that we are also human beings who are desirous of love and not sympathy," said Yogesh. Another teacher said society should shun its prejudices and ould encourage those who want to marry 'out of box'. "In my view marriage between a disabled and normal person should be encouraged, as it will help in bringing them into mainstream and increase their acceptability," said DU teacher. -- Avinash Shahi Doctoral student at Centre for Law and Governance JNU Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. [AI] John Altman writes an Op-Ed in the New York Times: I Don’t Want to Be ‘Inspiring’
One of my most memorable moments in high school came during my freshman year. A motivational speaker was addressing us in a huge assembly. I was seated with one of my best friends at the front of the auditorium, and the whole group was having an amazing time. The speaker was charismatic, exhibited a warm, jovial disposition and a wonderful sense of humor. I was smiling and laughing with the rest of the group. But at the end of the assembly, my friend and I were singled out by the speaker, who said something that people with disabilities hear often — that because I got around on crutches and she with a scooter, we were “inspiring.” In that moment my personal characteristics, the people I love, the interests I pursue and the beliefs I hold became moot, and the fact that I have cerebral palsy and use crutches to walk became the entirety of who John Altmann is and what he is about. When I tried expressing my anger to people, I felt disconnected from them. They assured me the speaker was just being nice; some insisted he was just telling the truth. That what I did every day was inspiring. I grew tired trying to convince them that I shouldn’t be a source of inspiration for anyone simply because I live my life as I know it just like everyone else. The friend who I sat with at the assembly got it. Our frustration, while a foreign language to all of our able-bodied friends, arose from a deeper desire that we shared. We wanted to be more than our disabilities, to overcome them and forge an identity apart from them. But an able-bodied world makes it hard to find this sort of fulfillment. And it often does so with even the best of intentions. Case in point: In January a story made the rounds about an undefeated wrestler who let his opponent, who happened to have Down syndrome, win a match. Most people praised the athlete for being selfless and a class act. A reporter at CNN wrote, “A high school wrestling star gave up a shot at going undefeated this year, but some people think he had the perfect season.” I didn’t see it that way. Wrestling is an activity predicated upon a specific kind of athletic acumen and is governed by its own set of rules. When the undefeated wrestler let the opponent with Down syndrome win, the nature of the environment was fundamentally altered. The wrestling mat, which is meant to be a site for athletes to exhibit their physical prowess and to find out in the end who the superior wrestler is, became instead another site of segregation. I don’t mean to say the wrestler had malicious intent; it’s obvious that his heart was in the right place, but his actions, and more significantly society’s subsequent reaction to them, reinforced the stigma that the disabled body is one in need of our sympathy and charity. In that moment the wrestler’s identity was disregarded and his disability took center stage. However well intentioned, the able-bodied wrestler chose segregation by laying down for his opponent rather than giving him his best. His sympathy became toxic. This is just a symptom of a much larger problem. Society, on an institutional level, consistently opts for its own more profound types of segregation. In Britain, for instance, welfare reforms caused 14,000 disabled citizens to lose the mobility cars they use to function and to go about their lives. Here in the United States, one of the most common and widespread problems for people with disabilities is unemployment, with only about 40 percent of disabled people employed as of 2010, about half the rate of non-disabled people. These problems can be linked with the inaccessibility disabled students usually encounter in colleges and other spheres of civil society. Much like the Civil Rights Act for African-Americans, the Americans With Disabilities Act, while a revolutionary piece of legislation at the time of its passage, was not a magic wand we could wave to dismantle these transgressions against disabled people, or reform the system that supports them. Disabled people cannot be expected to forge an identity beyond their disability or to diminish the impact that their disability has on them personally, psychologically or emotionally when they are deprived of the very extensions of their bodies that allow them to engage in the world, and when this very engagement is faced with exclusion. When a college, a business or any sphere of civil society refuses the expenditure on accommodation of a disabled person, and when a government actively deprives disabled people of what they need to live, they’re effectively saying that what we are outside of our disabilities and what we wish to become in spite of them doesn’t matter. I want a world that is so accessible, where technology and medicine become so advanced, that all disabled people get the chance to opt out of their disability. I want a world where the social relations I forge with those who are able-bodied are not predicated on my disability. As the philosopher of disability Joel

» Banks recall over 32 lakh debit cards; govt seeks details Banks recall over 32 lakh debit cards; govt seeks details October 20, 2016 21:29 IST [] The suspected security breach happened through a malware in the systems of Hitachi Payments Services, which serves ATM network of Yes Bank [] Hit by an unprecedented ATM security breach, several public and private sector banks have recalled or blocked over 32 lakh debit cards to safeguard their customers from any financial fraud, while the government has sought from them details of all necessary safety measures. Bankers said the recalled cards include those that have been replaced as a 'pre-emptive measure', while in many cases the customers have been asked to mandatorily change the PIN and other security numbers to resume using the blocked cards. While there were some reports about certain cards, affected by security breach, having been used fraudulently abroad including in China, bankers appeared putting the blame on a payment services provider that manages ATM network of a private sector bank. State-run SBI is said to have re-called around 600,000 cards, while others like Bank of Baroda, IDBI Bank, Central Bank and Andhra Bank have also replaced debit cards of several customers as a pre-emptive measure. Among the private sector players, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Yes Bank have asked customers to change their ATM PINs. HDFC Bank also advised its customers to use its own ATMs for carrying out any transaction. The suspected security breach happened through a malware in the systems of Hitachi Payments Services, which serves ATM network of Yes Bank. Hitachi provides payment services through ATM services, point of sale services (POS), emerging payments services and banking channel products like cash recycling ATMs and auto passbook entry machines. Yes Bank sought to distance itself from the breach and stressed on need to police service providers in a better way. "There needs to be a lot more vigilance where there are outsourcing partners to make sure they don't endanger the delivery and system risk, and there's a fair amount of policing as far as outsourcing risks are concerned," Yes Bank chief Rana Kapoor told reporters. Hitachi Payment Services, however, maintained its system was not compromised, citing interim report by an external audit agency appointed by it. According to bankers, the breach took place in such a way that anyone using the said bank's ATMs in the region might stand to get affected. Concerned over the issue, the Finance Ministry has sought details from banks as also the additional steps that need to be taken to avert such incidents. According to the Ministry sources, the Department of Financial Services has sought information about implication of such data compromise from Indian Banks Association. Seeking to calm worried card users, the finance ministry also said that debit cards are completely safe and there should be no room for panic. "Only about 0.5 per cent debit card details were compromised while remaining 99.5 cards are completely safe and bank customers should not panic," Department of Financial Services additional secretary G C Murmu told PTI. Meanwhile, a finance ministry source said, "We have got information from SBI that PIN (Personal Identification Number) related with few debit cards has been compromised and the bank is in the process of replacing it with new card in secured manner." The bank has taken measures to ensure safety of data, the source added. In a statement, SBI said, "Card network companies NPCI, MasterCard and Visa had informed various banks about a potential risk to some cards owing to a data breach. Accordingly, we have taken precautionary measures and have blocked cards of certain customers identified by networks." SBI's deputy managing director and chief operating officer Manju Agarwal said the data breach took place between May and July, but was discovered only in September and so the bank decided to proactively change the cards. "As soon as we came to know financial data being stolen, we asked our customers to change the ATM pin numbers. Despite instructions only 7 per cent of the customers changed their pin numbers. At that point we decided to recall cards as we did not want our customers to be at any risk," she said. She, however, declined to give the number of debit cards the bank has recalled, but sources said it was around six lakh cards. SBI has issued nearly 20 crore debit cards. An Axis Bank spokesperson said, "The bank has proactively reached out to the affected customers and advised them to change their Debit Card PINs. The Axis Bank ATM network is fully secured and customers should ideally use Axis Bank ATMs to change their Debit Card PINs." SBI said its systems have not been compromised and its existing cardholders are not at any risk. The bank is in the process of issuing
