[AI] Railway Group D recruitment 2018: Late date to apply extended, blind candidates can apply too

The Railway Recruitment Board has extended the last date for applying
to more than 62,000 group D posts and more than 26,000 posts for
assistant loco pilots
and technicians to the end of March.

The last date for applying for the Group D jobs was March 12 and that
for loco pilots and technicians was March 5.

The various posts to be filled through Group D recruitment process are
track maintainer Grade IV (trackman), gateman, pointsman, switchman,
helpers in
electrical, engineering, mechanical, signal and telecommunication departments.

The railway ministry on Tuesday told the Delhi high court that it will
allow blind candidates to appear in its recruitment examinations. The
ministry informed
a bench of acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and justice C Hari Shankar
that it would allow such candidates against its 90,000 vacancies.

The response came on a plea by National Federation of the Blind
challenging two recent notifications according to which the blind were
barred from appearing
for the railways’ recruitment exams.

The ministry added it would issue a fresh notification in this regard.

The court has now fixed the matter for further hearing on March 1.

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) had invited online applications
(Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No.02/2018) from eligible
candidates for Group
D posts in level 1 of 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) pay matrix in
various units of Indian Railways through a notification issued on
February 10.

The Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No.01/2018 for loco pilots and
technicians recruitment was issued on February 3.

Ministry of Railways have decided to change the criteria of
classification of Railway stations. Until now this was based solely
o­n ticket sales. This has now been modified to include both annual
earnings as well as Passengers handled.
On SWR the classification will move from A1, A, B, D etc. to
non-Suburban groups NSG-1, 2, 3 etc. and halt stations viz HG-1, 2
etc. o­n South Western Railway, SBC (Bengaluru City) & YPR
(Yesvantpur) belong to A1 Category (More than Rs.60 Cr. Annual
earnings), 15 stations under ‘A’ Category (more than Rs.8 Cr. to less
than 60 Cr. Annual earnings). Further 17 stations were classified as
B, (more than Rs.4 Cr.upto to 8 Cr. Annual earnings) ,47 stations as D
(between Rs. 60 lakhs and 4 Crores Annual earnings), 188 E category
(less than Rs.60 lakhs Annual earnings) and 98 Halt Stations were in F
category.Stations in top category (NSG-1) will be KSR Bengaluru
followed by Yeshvantpur and Mysuru in NSG-2 have annual earning of Rs.
500 Cr. Plus and passengers above 20 million. Actual earing at KSR
Bengaluru is now more than 600 Cr. Per annum and passengers handled is
25 Million. Yeshvantpur and Mysuru falls in second category with
earning of more than 100 Cr. And passengers more than 10 Millions per
annum. Detailed statement of important stations in SWR with earnings
and passengers handled in 2011-12 & in 2016-2017 is enclosed
Based o­n the new classification,55stations out of total 367 stations
of South Western Railway are getting upgraded including Mysuru,
Bangarpet, Mandya, Nanjangud Town, Chamarajanagar, Channapatna,
Kuppam,Malur, Ramanagaram, Whitefield, Tyakal, Harihar, Subramanya
Road, Sagarajambagaru In addition 40 halt stations have
been upgraded where enhanced passenger amenities will be provided.
