[AI] Ex-government clerk dupes blind man of Rs 2.5 lakh

2019-05-03 Thread Kanchan Pamnani
Ex-government clerk dupes blind man of Rs 2.5 lakh - Times of India

Mumbai: Ex-government clerk dupes blind man of Rs 2.5 lakh TNN | Apr 1,
2019, 07.53 AM IST Printed from MUMBAI: A former employee of the state
secretariat, Mantralaya, has been arrested for allegedly cheating a
shopkeeper of Rs 2.5 lakh, by promising to help his visually challenged son
get a job in the corridors of power. The accused, Aavesh Gaikwad (43), had
been sacked from his job, said an official from Nirmal Nagar police station.
He had learnt that the son of a shop owner in Bandra (east), Vinit Gala, had
applied for a government job. "Gaikwad told him he could use his clout in
the department to better his son's chances of getting the job. To facilitate
the young man's early recruitment, he took the money," said the officer.
Gala learnt recently that Gaikwad had been sacked from his job as he often
bunked work, said the police. That's when he realised that Gaikwad had
cheated him. Deputy commissioner of police Anil Kumbhare said Gaikwad, who
has been charged with cheating, is in custody.
