BJP notice to Congress over website link Gargi Parsai
NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party has served a legal notice on the Congress party for allegedly using a domain name www.bjp.com to redirect internet users to the official website of the All-India Congress Committee. BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman told The Hindu that the notice was served on the Congress on September 27, but there had been no official response to it. She said the website www.bjp.com had come to the party's notice recently. When the site was opened it took one to the AICC website. "Political parties, when they register websites, do so in the .org format as they are not commercial institutions. But some time back, a bjp.com site has been created." Ms. Sitharaman said that when the party got the matter investigated by cyber experts, the source was "masked." Only two telephone numbers were registered and they were traced to the United States. "The American numbers were linked to an answering machine that had the message "welcome to bjp.com." The seven-page notice urges the Congress to "cease the redirecting and linking of the said website with their own or any other belonging to the Congress" and take steps for transfer of the domain name, www.bjp.com, to the BJP. "I don't know the exact facts about the website," Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said. "But if it is true, there could be some technical problems. It is unfortunate that the BJP is trying to politicise a technical problem," he told The Hindu here. http://www.hindu.com/2010/10/04/stories/2010100461611400.htm There is enough light for one who wants to see.
