Survey on position of ladies' coach
Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Railways have started a survey among the women commuters in
the State to know their preference on the positioning of the ladies'
compartments in the trains.

The survey has been kicked off by the Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division in
the wake of the demand from women for shifting the coach after the recent
molestation and death of a young woman commuter near Shoranur.

The survey is being carried out by the ladies squad of the Travelling Ticketing
Examiners among the women commuters travelling in the ladies' coach. A
questionnaire is being provided to the commuters to indicate their preference
whether to keep the coach near the guard's cabin or in the middle of the train.
The questionnaires are collected by the squad at the next station.

According to a railway spokesman, the survey would be completed within a week.
After the analysis, the division authorities would forward the outcome to zonal
headquarters in Chennai. A decision on the shifting of the ladies' coach will
be taken on the basis of it.

Coaches painted

Meanwhile, Railways have painted the Helpline numbers of the Government Railway
Police (9846200100) and the Railway Protection Force (9995040000) on all the
coaches of passenger trains running in the Thiruvananthapuram Division.

With thanks and regards
