Visually impaired bankers seek Dr Jitendra’s intervention
Excelsior Correspondent
NEW DELHI, Sept 26: A delegation of visually impaired bankers
representing registered organization “Visually Impaired Bank
Employees’ Welfare Association” (VIBEWA) met Union Minister of State
(Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER),
MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and
Space, Dr Jitendra Singh here and put across some of their grievances
which, according to them, had been pending for a long time. They
sought his personal intervention and also requested kind consideration
from Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT).
Members of the delegation thanked the Minister for having granted
them appointment to listen to them, because one of their grievance was
that they were not being given a proper and patient hearing.
President of the Association, Rajesh Asudani said that visually
impaired officials in the banking sector had organized themselves to
work for maximizing the productivity and ensure an enabling work
environment right from recruitment to retirement. The suggestions put
forward by them, he said, were only meant to increase their output and
enable them to put in their best to the maximum of their potential.
In a representation addressed to the Minister, the members of
delegation pointed out an existing huge backlog in the mandated 1%
vacancy provision for the blind. This, they urged, to be filled up by
employing more and more of the deserving aspirants from among the
visually impaired.
The representation submitted by the delegation also pointed to their
lack of accessibility to existing sites and software. It suggested
means of assisted technology to make it more facilitatory for the
visually impaired. They also sought fair deal in matters of transfer
and promotion for them.
According to Rajesh Asudani, if the suggestions put across are
followed on merit, this would help bring about a positive change for
all the stakeholders. He requested that the issue may kindly be taken
up by the Minister in DoPT.
Dr Jitendra Singh gave a patient hearing to the members of delegation
and said that he would forward the representation made by them for due
consideration, examination and fair treatment to the best to the best
