However, she turns him down as a life partner, without any substantial reason,  
and still expects that he should have persisted with his parents when they 
rejected her due to her disability.
So, he did not treat her equally.

This is too much to expect from a rejected lover.

very well put together. It is surely justified if you don't feel for
someone despite their selfless love and care towards you. Its after
all our life and not a maths problem where you always solve every
equation and then later on prove that your solution was correct
