Get started with a new service. Re: List of webmail servers and how the email should look before hitting 'send'?

2007-12-12 Thread Rodolfo Ortega
Hello dear Accmailers :

To get started with a new unknown service, we send a blank mail, i.e no
subject, no body. Most services will send you back an error page with
instructions on how to get help.

For instance, this is what I got after a first try on webpage(AT)rumkin.com

> ERROR WITH YOUR REQUEST
>
> : Either the file you requested or the command you
> : used was incorrect. To get a list of all valid
> : commands send a message to webpage(AT)rumkin.com

Most of the services run standard scripts: the www4mail type, the www2mail,
type, etc. Once you get familiar with one, you just guess the known
commands.

Happy new yer 2008 !!

US vs Cuba, embargo or blockade? Not strictly off topic.

2008-10-30 Thread Rodolfo Ortega
Since I was a student, in 1996, my first's insights into Internet were
only by E-Mail Methods, in times of Gerald Boyd as moderator of this
respectable list. Since that time things have not changed very much. I
have had access to a slow, unreliable and expensive Internet. I still
need of these early learned methods to access the World "Wide" Web.

Why? Well there are many reasons, but the United States blockade against
my little island is one big explanation. Cuba, in the middle of the
Caribbean where many continental fiber optics cables met, has no
connection to any of them.

I would like to thanks to all of you, who maintain, provide services,
helping the rest of us without direct access to Internet. Most of you
are United States citizens, non profit organizations and the like,
proving that our two peoples are victims of this policy.

I would like to make also a call for any Initiative to contribute to the
help for the good relations between our governments.

In this days, when my little Island have being struck by the hurricanes
Gustav and Ike; when yesterday October 29, 185 of 192 United Nations
members voted against this policy for the 16th occasion since 1996; it
is an excellent moment for the cease of what United States government
calls euphemistically "embargo". This affects all aspects of our live,
not just IT.

Adding custom menu to Internet Explorer for your favorite ACCMAIL Server.

2009-04-21 Thread Rodolfo Ortega
Dear Accmailers:

Some of the ACCMAIL servers do not provide the ability to construct the
email by simply cliking on the link of the retreived page but there's a
trick for Internet Explorer to add a custom menu, by tampering with the
registry.

If you are interested, and dare to, follow this steps:

Create a folder:

C:\ACCMAIL

Paste the folowing code into notepad:

var oWindow = window.external.menuArguments;
var oSource = oWindow.event.srcElement ;
open('mailto:y...@accserver.com?subject='+oSource.href);

Replace y...@accserver.com, with your prefered accmail server address.
If the URL must be placed in the body, change Subject='+ into Body='+
and/or add the necessary commands. i.e: Body=GET '+

Save the file as C:\ACCMAIL\ACCSERVER.htm (replace ACCSERVER with the
name of the actual server).

Paste the following into notepad:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\MenuExt\ACCSERVER]
@="file://C:\\ACCMAIL\\ACCSERVER.htm"
"Contexts"=dword:0020

Replace ACCSERVER with the name of the actual server and save the file
as C:\ACCMAIL\add.reg

Next dobleclic add.reg to add the info to the registry. You must do this
for every server you wish to add.

When you right clik a link it will display the server in the context
menu. Click on it and the default email program will launch with the
constructed request. Some long URLs wont work, will get truncated, but
is still useful for must sites.

Yours,

Rodolfo
