There's an easy explanation for this: The brightness keys just send normal
keycodes. The drivers for those keys have to be loaded in W*nd*ws. (It's just a
setkeycode in linux)

no, it's not.
the ACPI video drivers only create /sys/class/backlight/acpi_videoX/
directories.
