Do you mean you even don't need to press the Fn+F5?
If Fn+F5 works properly, in your case, usually we can get
LCD on, CRT on -- LCD

I don't have CONFIG_ACPI_VIDEO enabled, so /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/DOS doesnt
exist.
Should i still apply that patch?

Hmm, then can you try a recent mainline kernel with CONFIG_ACPI_VIDEO=m?
you don't need to apply the patch, but please try with
/proc/acpi/video/GFX0/DOS = 0 and 1.

I tried that and:
It _only_ happens with ACPI enabled, acpi=off resolves the problem.
