I'm affected by this bug as well, on a Dell Latitude D610:
With the DVD drive in the media bay => no problem
Without the DVD drive in the media bay => kacpid + kacpi_notif

What you said in comment #14 is right. It seems that the FAN is controlled
by the BIOS. The ACPI FAN device is bogus and it can't control the true FAN
device.
