The unhiding quirk is only applied for machines on which we know it is safe
(that is, neither ACPI nor SMM are accessing the SMBus.) So this isn't related

OK i compiled 2.6.29-rc7 with patch #97 and result is that computer still
doesn't shut down. the same result is for #98 option written in menu.lst for
the same kernel.

It prevents my system from going straight into kernel panic without having to
disable acpi or compile a custom kernel without MTRR - so I certainly have no
