Is is this the same a thermal.nocrt=1 as I used this but somehow 127°C was read
and the system suddenly shut down without properly going back through the run
levels.

I did some testing with 2.6.36. I found the following:
1. The problem is still present.
2. The issue is not apparent when using network based time servers only.

In summary, 2.6.34 - 2.6.36 fail unless pci=nocrs is used,
and 2.6.37 works, but not because of a deliberate fix, right?

Yup, I confirm that 2.6.36 still works as expected with the very same user
space (up2date debian/sid), while 2.6.37-rc1 does not work.
